Students are introduced to the culture and management of golf turfs and their adaptability.

Description:

Students gain knowledge of basic turfgrass anatomy, high temperature turfgrass adaptability, cool season and warm season turfgrass species and their appropriate use as related to a golf course’s climate zone.

Value of the Badge:

Earning the Turfgrass Adaptation badge indicates a student has compiled a thorough knowledge of the basic golf agronomic practices important in golf course management with an emphasis on management under high temperature situations. Students demonstrate an understanding of why specific turfgrass species are used depending on the golf course’s climatic zone and the ability of those species to adapt to high temperatures.

Badge Criteria:

  1. Successfully complete the Turfgrass Adaptation Quiz with emphasis on high temperature stress, managing turf under high temperature, using infra-red thermometers to measure canopy temperature and a comparison of C3 and C4 grasses in Ohio State University’s HCS4570, Turfgrass Management & Science.
